Changing the Pace is the theme of the 2012 Alberta Early Years Conference. We will examine ways to change the pace of our fast moving society - as professionals, families, community members and in our interactions and expectations of young children. We plan to explore ways to become more mindful of the work that is done with children and families in order to focus on the whole child and the building of relationships.
Who Attends? The conference is primarily for front line staff, administrators, volunteers and policy makers who work in the field of early intervention with families and their children (birth to 6 years) who live in at risk environments and/or are at risk of or have a developmental delay or disability. These professionals include, but are not limited to, early intervention workers, social workers, program administrators, speech and language professionals, child care workers, family literacy programs, early head start and head start programs and community health workers; with the vast majority being from the not-for-profit sector.
What are our Goals? It is our desire to provide the 400 conference participants, with engaging speakers and topics that focus on new understandings of and approaches to supporting healthy early childhood development and the advancement of early education practices and policies. Some of our past keynote speakers have included Bruce Perry, Joan Durrant, Carl Dunst, Mary Gordon, Clyde Hertzman, Roberta Michnick Golinkoff, Lonnie Zwaigenbaum, Jane Hewes, Gordon Neufeld and Stuart Shanker.
How do you submit a proposal? Submissions of presentations on Innovative Practice or Interventions, Research, Program Development or Policy Initiatives, for the 2012 conference are welcomed from all organizations or individuals who care for, work with or are involved in the area of young children and their families. Proposals may be submitted a number of ways, although electronic submissions are preferred:
